Continuing Education 5770

Please continue to watch this space for further developments in our Continuing Education programming!

A Judaic study course, aimed at our Adult Bnai Mitzvah students but open to all, begins Wednesday night, Feb. 3. at 7:30. Sheryl Rothman teaches holiday observances, ritual, and mitzvot every other week. We will prevent Hebrew reading from rusting by exercising that skill on some of those alternate weeks. See the office or write Ellen for details.

A talk by our own Phil Hoffman after Friday night services Feb. 19
. Phil, who brought his Israeli counterparts in the teen Bronfman program to speak last month, will talk about his Israel experience last summer. Israel-bound in 2010? You want to come.

Rabbi’s classes: Raising Children With Soul, or How to Make your Home a Place Where Children Set Their Moral Compass. For Parents of 5-12 year-old children. Feb. 21, 11:30 – 12:00.

Reading Prayer With Insight, in which Rabbi Biller takes a prayer and study themes, placement in our service and deeper meanings. Feb. 21, 10:30 - 11:30

For either Rabbi class, call the office 973-539-4440 to sign up or e-mail office@adathshalom.net

Book Club: Wednesday, Feb 24: The Wandering Stars, by Sholem Aleichem. We haven’t picked up Sholem Aleichem since the wonderful Motl the Cantor’s Son. Not to miss. Click here for this year's elected year of books and email Ellen for the place!

(Applied) MONEY AND MORALITY
The Team Sport
Last year we enjoyed four evenings of presentations on the themes of Money and Morality, considering our Jewish sources and ourselves. This year everyone can play! Everyone also can continue to nosh and schmooze and have a good time in the Youth Lounge on a Thursday evening.

Join Continuing Ed on April 15th, when we will take on a set of moral conundrums – the kinds of hypothetical situations in which it isn’t perfectly clear WWMD*. We’ll get the facts and issues of the cases days ahead of time and choose our sides, each team advocating for a alternate course of action. Then we’ll have a judge or judges decide which team has been most persuasive.

Embrace your inner lawyer/rabbi/advocate/judge! Take part in what are sure to be stimulating discussions, moderated by Rich Hochman, one of Adath Shalom’s congregant attorneys. Please RSVP to Ellen at and watch this space for the Facts of the Cases!
